Revealing the future of high performance networking, Extreme Networks today announced that together with SARA, the national High Performance Computing and e-Science Support Center in the Netherlands, a demonstration of high throughput 40 GbE is being conducted at the Supercomputing show SC10. SC10 is currently running at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Highlighting the event, is a computer-generated ultra-high resolution video depicting the “Big Bang” as part of the CosmoGrid astrophysics project which is delivered to 15 high-definition LCD screens through two 40 GbE connections. Using three Myrinet dual-head 10 GbE NIC cards in the server, the data is transported over two 40 GbE links and split-out in eight 10 GbE streams to feed the 15 high-definition LCD screens, leveraging the two Summit X650 switches from Extreme Networks. This demonstration was made possible with Extreme Networks’ first-to-market, standards-based 40 GbE switch, which features pricing of $1,000 per port.
