Press Release: Highest Recorded Light-Coupling Efficiency Demonstrated By Joint University Project With Fabrication By Innos

...Novel ‘Dual-Grating Assisted Directional Coupler’ Developed For Nanophotonics...

Innos, the UK’s leading research and development company for innovations in nanoscale technology, has announced results of collaborative research between the universities of Surrey, Southampton and the Politecnico di Bari in Italy. With fabrication by Innos the project has demonstrated the highest recorded coupling efficiency of 55%. The project – funded by EPSRC, Bookham Technology Plc and UniSdirect – has developed a novel method for coupling light from an optical fibre to 200nm thick silicon waveguides in optical communications.
