Scalable Communications Provides Stephenson Harwood with an Extreme Networks’ Legal LAN

Extreme Networks and its Platinum Partner Scalable Communications today announced that international law firm Stephenson Harwood is using a selection of switches from its Summit family to refresh its Local Area Network (LAN) infrastructure and provide a solid foundation for future expansion.

Stephenson Harwood is a successful and growing practice dedicated to client service, working with organisations operating in the financial services, transportation, real estate and energy industries. Stephenson Harwood required a network that would support 21st century requirements, such as IP Telephony. As its incumbent Nortel network was unable to fulfil these requirements, it realised it was time to upgrade the LAN infrastructure. Scalable Communications recommended that Stephenson Harwood deploy a series of Extreme Networks’ Summit switches to provide the backbone for introducing IP Telephony, whilst providing the necessary uptime and reliability required, with minimal failover.

“We spoke with our service provider Scalable Communications, and briefed the team there with our network requirements,” says Stephenson Harwood Director of IT, Chris Petrie. “Our aim was to deploy a robust and reliable network solution with excellent monitoring and reporting tools. Scalable have delivered a high quality platform for our Information systems the forthcoming VoIP deployment and for other ancillary Ethernet/IP based systems”.

“In providing Stephenson Harwood with Extreme Networks solutions, we knew that we would meet all their reliability and resiliency requirements, whilst providing them with a network that is future-proofed,” said Scalable Communications Director of Strategic and New Business, Frank Richmond. “We were able to roll out the new system in parallel to the existing one so that usability wouldn’t be affected. Now the new Extreme Networks system is in place, we can safely remove the old one without interruption.”

Following the implementation of the new system in the UK office, Stephenson Harwood now plans to utilise Extreme Networks switches in all new office openings, with a view to introducing these to all its sites worldwide.

“We’re very pleased we’ve had the opportunity to build a strong and secure relationship with Stephenson Harwood, and to provide them with technology capable of supporting their 21st Century applications,” said Extreme Networks Director for UK and Ireland, Gary Newbold. “At a time when technologies are constantly evolving, it’s imperative to have a secure network that is future-proofed and capable of hosting an ever-increasing list of applications.”
